Making Space to Breathe and Begin Again
Every new season has a way of stirring something in us. Sometimes it’s excitement, sometimes it’s weariness, and sometimes it’s a nudge that says, “Something needs to change.” These past couple of months have been very challenging, which ultimately lead to realizing I need a fresh reset, not just in my calendar, but in my spirit and my mind too.
This post isn’t about perfection or starting over from scratch. It’s about giving yourself space to realign, refocus, and breathe again. Here are some ways to begin resetting spiritually and mentally this season:
1. Begin with Reflection
Before jumping into new goals or routines, take a moment to pause. Journal about what’s been draining you, what’s been bringing you life, and what you sense God may be asking you to release. I like to take into account of where I am, and what I would like to work towards as my starting point. Acknowledge what is and isn't in your control, as this will guide you on how to move forward especially when uncertain.
2. Reconnect with Your Spiritual Practices
Whether it’s prayer, worship, scripture reading, or simply sitting in silence, lean into the practices that ground you. Resetting starts with returning to the source of your strength. This is an opportunity to draw closer to God, and let Him guide and direct. I just started attending a bible study with a church group, but I also enjoy them on my own when I'm looking to be intentional in making time to really connect. Either way you choose, aligning with God is the best way to start a new chapter.
3. Refresh Your Mental Space
Declutter your mind by decluttering your surroundings. Try simplifying your routines, unplugging from social media for a while, or giving yourself permission to rest without guilt. Small changes can bring huge relief. It's important to have mental clarity for a reset, I look at it the same as my bedroom. When my room is clean and organized, I can move about it freely, complete tasks and enjoy my space, so taking the time to clear out my mind works in a similar manner.
4. Rewrite Your Daily Rhythm
Instead of piling on more to-dos, think about what rhythms actually serve you and your family. Resetting often looks like building consistency in the small things such as morning quiet time, evening gratitude, or a mid-day pause. Resets often require new rhythms because of how easily it is to get thrown off when life moments start to take place. Starting small allows for a regroup and a path to get back on track.
5. Release the Pressure
A reset doesn’t mean you’ll instantly feel renewed or that life will suddenly be easier. It’s about grace. Allow yourself to move forward at your own pace, knowing that every step is progress. Whenever life gets overwhelming, I remind myself to just take it one day at a time, sometimes even one hour or minute. I find my greatest desire is for life to just feel normal again, but rather than focusing on what was, shifting my thoughts to what I can do to show up now, gives me the breathing room I need to begin moving forward.
Friend, you don’t have to wait until the new year, your birthday, or a big life shift to reset. A new season is reason enough. Give yourself permission to pause, reset, and step into this next chapter with clarity and peace.
