I Found an Old Prayer Guide... and It Inspired My July Challenge
Sometimes the things we need most have a funny way of finding us again.
The other day, I was cleaning out one of my drawers when I came across an old printout titled 31 Days of Praying for Your Husband. I honestly don't remember when I printed it or how long it had been tucked away, but seeing it again immediately caught my attention.
I paused for a moment and flipped through the pages.
Each day highlighted a different area to pray over; from spiritual growth and wisdom to health, relationships, and God's purpose for his life.
It felt like more than just an old piece of paper.
It felt like a gentle reminder.
As wives, it's easy to pray when there's a problem to solve, a decision to make, or a difficult season to navigate. But intentional, consistent prayer for our husbands can quietly slip into the background of everyday life.
Finding that prayer guide challenged me.
Not because I felt guilty.
But because it reminded me of the kind of wife I want to continue becoming.
Choosing Intention This July
Rather than putting the printout back in the drawer, I've decided to do something with it.
Throughout the month of July, I'm committing to intentionally praying for my husband every single day.
Not because I expect a perfect month.
Not because I believe I'll suddenly have all the right words to pray.
But because I know that when we consistently bring the people we love before God, He often begins working in our own hearts as much as He works in theirs.
Prayer changes perspective.
It softens hearts.
It reminds us that God is at work, even when we can't see it.
And that's something I want more of in my marriage.
This Isn't About Having the Perfect Marriage
One thing I want to make clear is that this challenge isn't reserved for wives whose marriages feel easy.
Every marriage has seasons.
Some are filled with joy and connection.
Others are marked by stress, misunderstanding, distance, or waiting.
Regardless of what your current season looks like, prayer is never wasted.
Sometimes our prayers strengthen our husbands.
Sometimes they strengthen us.
And sometimes they remind us that God is holding our marriage even when life feels uncertain.
What This Challenge Will Look Like
Throughout July, I'll be setting aside intentional time each day to pray for a different area of my husband's life.
Some days I'll pray for his relationship with God.
Other days I'll pray for his health, wisdom, work, leadership, friendships, protection, and future.
I'll also be sharing encouragement and reflections throughout the month on Instagram, and I'd love for you to join me.
You don't have to pray perfectly.
You don't need a long list of eloquent words.
Just show up each day with an open heart and a willingness to place your husband in God's hands.
Questions to Reflect On Before We Begin
Before July starts, spend a few quiet moments reflecting.
- When was the last time I intentionally prayed for my husband without asking God to fix a problem?
- What areas of his life need encouragement and prayer right now?
- How has prayer shaped my perspective in past seasons?
- What am I hoping God will do in my own heart over the next 31 days?
Write your thoughts down. Pray honestly. Leave room for God to surprise you.
Will You Join Me?
One of the things I've loved most about building One In A Million Wife is knowing there are women all over the country walking through different seasons of marriage, faith, and personal growth.
This July, I'd love for us to grow together.
Let's spend the month intentionally covering our husbands in prayer.
Not because we have perfect marriages.
Not because we've figured everything out.
But because we serve a faithful God who is always at work.
If you're joining the challenge, let me know in the comments. I'd love to pray alongside you and encourage one another throughout the month.
A Simple Way to Stay Intentional
One thing I've learned is that it's easy to start with good intentions but lose momentum as life gets busy.
That's why I love writing down what God is teaching me along the way.
Whether it's answered prayers, Scriptures that stand out, or reflections from each day, recording the journey helps me see God's faithfulness over time.
If you'd like a place to keep those reflections throughout the month, the Faith & Personal Growth Planner is a wonderful companion for this challenge. It was designed to help you stay intentional in your walk with God and create space to notice His work in both the big moments and the ordinary ones.
Here's to a July filled with faithful prayer, growing hearts, and marriages continually surrendered to God.
